Rainy Day Run

I'm not usually a runner. When friends ask me to join them on a jaunt around town, I tell them that the only time I run is if I can't bike or ski. And anyone living in Vermont right now (or maybe anywhere in the country, really) knows that these are not good conditions for either one. So, I went for a run today.

I set out with my iPod and no particular route in mind, other than I wanted to warm up by running down the hill by my house. Other than that, I paid no attention to distance, time, or any other measure of "success." I just went out with the intention of feeling good; with the intention of being in the moment. Each time I came to a junction, I had the choice of continuing on or heading home, depending on how I felt.

And I just kept running. I looped back on my route, and figure-eighted, and back tracked, until I actually ended up back right where I started. Only this time I was running up the hill by my house. And it felt so good to make my intention be to have fun. So often our goals are to measure ourselves, and maybe to compare against others. But can't having fun just be the goal? It's certainly mine.

Happy [soggy] trails!

Timberline to Brandywine

Was a late skin and a last second decision to go for Timberline peak with the sun fading. Barley wine wasn't too shabby where otherwise spring looked quite alive and well on the mountain. Good turns, good folks and a sunset just made my day. Thanks Sarah, Jon, Odin and Duds.

Bike, Ski, Bike, Ski...What Should I do Next?

Back at it again....It's been a really nice week with lots of biking and skiing. And one more day of nice weather coming up! Should I ski or should I bike?

Sunday Afternoon Skin

Oh, what a glorious day! We skinned up as the sun set behind us over the Adirondaks, and then skiied back down in the twilight. As Quinn said about the surrounding beauty, "People write poems about this shit."

Another great day to be alive. Happy trails!

First Ride of the Season!

Yesterday was one of those beautiful Spring days that just screamed 'Get out and ride!' So I did. I took a lovely ride up North Street and over to the Adamant Co-Op - where flowers were poking up through the mud and snow! I ate lunch over there, and then headed back down into Montpelier. I even caught the clearest glimpse of Mt. Washington that I have ever seen from Vermont. What a great day to be alive! It was the kind of day that made me come home and call my parents to thank them for having me, just so that I could see this day.

Today looks to be another beauty. Maybe some spring skiing? But as I putter around the house this morning, it puts a smile on my face to see the bike gear back in action:

Happy Trails!

Ahhhhhh....yum.

Today I told my boss I was leaving early to go skiing, and he gave me the thumbs up, literally. We're enjoying some down time right now. He was on a conference call as I was leaving, and he mouthed the words "so jealous" as I waved goodbye. I have a wonderful boss.

It was the best idea I've ever had. These are the times that I live for, the ones that remind me what life is all about. These are the times that Tristan and I built our lives on. As I skinned up, taking in the sun and scenery, I felt like my heart just opened up and sucked in all the wintery, woodsy, sunny, skiing goodness. What a treat, what a life. Cheers, and happy trails!
